You have ten boxes, a desk, and a mattress. It looks like a small move—until you realize someone has to get everything down the stairs, load the truck, and carry it into the next apartment.
To book a yongdal in Korea, agree on the lifting work before agreeing on the price. Send the same item list, photos, and building details to each provider. Get written confirmation of the vehicle, people, total charge, and what happens if the plan changes.
This guide is for foreigners arranging a small domestic move, such as a one-room apartment or a few pieces of furniture. It covers booking and practical preparation, not international shipping or a full-size household move.
What does “yongdal” include?
용달 (yongdal) usually refers to small-load freight transport with a driver. It is not a standard promise of packing, furniture assembly, or carrying everything between rooms.
The most important distinction is between moving the goods in the truck and moving them to and from the truck. These are the questions to ask when you see the following labels:
| Korean wording | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| 운송만 / 차량만 | Transport only. Who loads, unloads, and carries between the truck and each room? |
| 기사 도움 | Driver assistance. Does the driver work with you, or are enough workers included for you not to lift? |
| 반포장이사 | Partial packing. Which items will the crew pack, and who unpacks at the destination? |
| 포장이사 | Packing move. Confirm packing, carrying, placement, and any exclusions or separate installation work. |
Do not rely on the label alone. For example, Sendy's booking instructions state that without an assistance option, the service is vehicle transport only. Other providers may package their services differently.
If you cannot safely lift, say so before requesting the quote. “I will be there” does not mean “I can help carry the refrigerator.” A low quote that depends on your physical labor is not comparable to a quote for a crew doing all the carrying.
Prepare a quote request the driver can actually assess
“A little stuff from a one-room” leaves too much open to interpretation. Walk through your room once and make a list of everything that will leave in the truck. Include things hidden in cupboards, under the bed, and on the balcony.
- Boxes and loose items: give the number and approximate dimensions of packed boxes, plus suitcases, bags, and irregular items. Update the provider if the final count changes.
- Large items: list each piece of furniture and appliance with dimensions. Show whether a desk folds, a bed frame comes apart, or a mattress must travel whole.
- Both buildings: provide floor numbers, elevator availability, entrance steps, and any narrow stairway or turn. An elevator in the building is not proof that your largest item fits inside it.
- The truck's route to the door: show the actual entrance and possible loading area. Ask the building manager about access restrictions, elevator reservations, and permitted moving times.
- Your requested help: specify room-to-room carrying, packing, dismantling, reassembly, or storage separately. Explain whether you can assist at either end.
Send a few useful photos: the full load, the largest objects, and the awkward access points. Avoid sending a lease, passport, door-lock code, or unrelated personal information as part of a general quote request.
A practical example: “Ten sealed boxes, one 120 × 60 cm desk with removable legs, one chair, and one mattress. Pickup: third floor, stairs only. Delivery: fifth floor, elevator available; mattress fit still to be checked. I cannot help lift. Please quote carrying from the old room into the new room.” These are example details, not a capacity estimate.
Ask the provider to confirm the vehicle against your actual inventory. Do not choose a “1-ton” truck solely because the apartment is small; bulky items, packaging, and access can change the plan. If photos leave uncertainty, ask for an on-site assessment or a more detailed consultation before committing.
Where to book: a local operator, Sendy, or Soomgo
You do not have to use an app. A local moving company can quote directly, but a recommendation or a map listing is only a starting point. Identify the business responsible for the move and get the agreement in writing.
The Korea Consumer Agency's April 2026 small-move warning highlights damage, extra charges, and nonperformance in poorly specified bookings. It recommends checking authorization and accurately agreeing on vehicles and personnel. Ask for the business's relevant transport or moving authorization; if uncertain, check with the authority responsible for the operator's business location.
Sendy: select the transport and assistance options
Sendy offers freight and small-move services. Its booking guide describes selecting the service and vehicle, date, addresses, options, and item details, then paying or requesting consultation before payment. Booking completion and driver matching are separate stages. Keep the confirmation and check that the assigned service matches the help you requested.
For an unclear load or booking problem, use the official support page; it lists 1833-6606 and chat support. Do not treat an estimated price as confirmation that your furniture and lifting requirements have been reviewed.
Soomgo: compare the individual providers, not just prices
Soomgo's customer guide describes submitting a request, receiving quotes, and discussing the job with a chosen provider. Its site identifies it as an intermediary. The person or business doing the move still needs to confirm the actual scope and terms.
Read recent reviews for moves resembling yours, but ask direct questions about stairs, crew size, and damage handling. A positive review of a single-item delivery does not establish that the same arrangement suits a complete apartment move.
These are examples of booking routes, not a ranking or a claim that we have personally tested either service.
What should the final price cover?
There is no useful nationwide flat price for “a small move.” Korea's Easy Law moving guide explains that load, distance, work conditions, added services, and timing affect costs. Compare two or three quotes using the same inventory and assistance requirements.
Ask each provider to mark these items as included, excluded, or chargeable under a stated condition:
- Truck, number of trips, and any extra stop.
- Carrying at both addresses, including stairs or a long walk from the loading area.
- Number of workers, and whether your help is expected.
- Packing materials, furniture protection, and agreed dismantling or reassembly.
- Parking, tolls, equipment, waiting time, and applicable taxes or platform fees.
- Payment timing, cancellation terms, and what happens if access or the load changes.
Then ask for one total based on the agreed conditions. “No extra charge” is most useful when it refers to a written list of what you actually disclosed.
Easy Law's explanation of the moving standard terms says charges should generally follow the contract; customer-caused changes can justify additional charges when the conditions for notifying the customer are met. This is not a promise that every freight-only booking uses identical terms. Ask which agreement applies to your service.
Before paying a deposit or prepaying through a platform, save the quote and cancellation policy. Confirm who receives the money and how a receipt will be issued. If you need a foreign-issued card, ask whether it is accepted before relying on that route.
If the app or Korean conversation is the problem
If registration, SMS verification, or payment fails, note the exact error and contact the service's official support. Ask whether staff-assisted booking or another supported payment method is available for your situation. Do not assume foreign-phone numbers, foreign cards, or English support are accepted everywhere.
A Korean-speaking helper can assist with the conversation, but the provider should know whose move it is and who will answer calls on the day. Keep names, addresses, times, and the amount in writing rather than relying on a translated phone conversation alone.
The following message requests a quote. Replace the brackets with real details before sending it:
[날짜와 시간]에 소형 이사를 하려고 합니다. 출발지는 [주소, 층수, 엘리베이터 유무], 도착지는 [주소, 층수, 엘리베이터 유무]입니다. 짐은 [목록과 크기]이고 사진을 첨부합니다. 저는 무거운 짐을 들 수 없어서 양쪽 집 안까지 운반해 주실 인력이 필요합니다. 차량, 작업 인원, 포함 작업, 총금액과 추가요금 조건을 문자로 알려 주세요.
I am planning a small move on [date and time]. Pickup is [address, floor, elevator details], and delivery is [the same details for the new address]. The items are [list and dimensions]; photos are attached. I cannot lift heavy items, so I need workers to carry them from and into the rooms at both ends. Please send the vehicle, crew size, included work, total price, and extra-charge conditions in writing.
Before moving day: solve access and packing problems
Coordinate your old apartment handover and new apartment access before choosing the truck's arrival time. Leave a realistic gap for inspection, keys, and travel. If the new room will not be available, arrange storage explicitly; do not assume the driver can wait indefinitely with your belongings.
Keep passports, residence cards, medication, valuables, chargers, and the new keys in a bag you carry yourself. Number your boxes so you can count them at delivery. Mark fragile contents, but also pack them appropriately—a “fragile” label is not cushioning.
Photograph existing scratches and the condition of vulnerable items before loading, then inspect them at arrival. The KCA warning specifically recommends before-and-after checks. Ask what the provider's insurance covers, including carrying and handling, and which exclusions apply; “insured” does not automatically mean every loss is covered.
Arrange appliance disconnection and reinstallation separately where needed. Do not assume moving labor includes qualified electrical, gas, or air-conditioning work. Follow the appliance manufacturer's transport instructions rather than a generic “wait this many hours” rule.
Finally, ask how furniture will be protected if it rains and whether the selected vehicle is appropriate. Plan your own journey too; riding with the driver should be confirmed, never assumed. Never travel in the cargo area.
When the move does not go to plan
The driver is late, unmatched, or cannot come
Contact the operator or platform using the booking reference. Ask for a confirmed arrival estimate or a replacement plan, then tell both buildings if the moving window may change. If you must book someone else, clarify the status and cancellation charge of the first booking before creating a second commitment.
Keep the messages and receipts for any replacement arrangements. Reimbursement is not automatic. Sendy's change and cancellation guide, for example, distinguishes timing and driver-matching status. A provider's failure to attend is not something you should casually label as your own change of mind.
An extra charge appears at the door
Ask which condition changed and how the amount was calculated. Compare that explanation with your photos and accepted quote. An extra cabinet you forgot to mention is different from charging again for stairs already disclosed.
For Sendy bookings, its on-site extra-charge guidance advises asking for the reason and calculation, recording the situation, and contacting support about an unexplained or unagreed charge. For another provider, contact the business responsible for your contract before authorizing disputed extra work.
이 계단과 짐은 예약 전에 사진으로 안내했습니다. 어떤 조건이 달라져서 추가요금이 생겼는지, 금액은 어떻게 계산됐는지 문자로 설명해 주세요.
I sent photos of these stairs and items before booking. Please explain in writing which condition changed and how the additional charge was calculated.
Something is damaged or missing
Tell the crew and booking provider promptly. Photograph the damage and packaging, note the missing box or item, and keep the service record. Avoid signing a statement that everything arrived undamaged if you have found a problem. Keep damaged items available for assessment where safe and practical.
Sendy's damage-reporting guidance explains that the declared items and adequate packing matter when assessing an insurance claim. Contact support for the required documents and applicable deadline; do not assume approval or full replacement value.
If discussion with the business does not resolve the issue, the KCA's small-move advisory directs consumers to 1372 for consumer counseling; calls are charged. Prepare the quote, payment record, inventory, photos, and written exchanges. Ask about available language assistance. Counseling is not a guarantee of compensation.
