Korea Food Delivery Apps for Foreigners: Baemin vs. Coupang Eats vs. Yogiyo

Short answer: If you are visiting Korea without a Korean mobile number, try Baemin's non-member restaurant-order flow first. Baemin now supports English, Japanese, and Chinese, and the company says foreign customers can verify an overseas number and pay with an overseas credit card for food-delivery orders.

Coupang Eats is strongest when you already use Coupang and have a working Korean account and payment setup. Yogiyo still makes more sense for Korean-speaking residents than for a short-term visitor. None of the three should be treated as universally available: the restaurant, address, payment screen, account status, and delivery type all affect whether an order can be completed.

Baemin: the most practical first attempt for a visitor

Baemin, short for Baedal Minjok (배달의민족), made a meaningful change in 2026. Woowa Brothers says its food-ordering experience is now available in English, Japanese, and Chinese. Its official global page specifically presents delivery to hotels, Airbnbs, and Hangang River locations as visitor use cases.

The important distinction is restaurant food delivery. In an official response on its current Google Play listing, Baemin says a foreign customer can order restaurant delivery as a non-member after verifying an overseas phone number and can pay with an overseas credit card. That statement should not be stretched to every service inside the app. B Mart, grocery and shopping, membership discounts, gifts, and other account-based features may have different verification requirements.

A sensible Baemin sequence

1. Install Baemin and change the app language if the option appears.
2. Choose the non-member or guest path rather than forcing full Korean membership.
3. Enter a phone number that can receive the verification message. Keep your home SIM active if your travel eSIM provides data only.
4. Set the Korean delivery address and move the map pin to the usable entrance.
5. Choose a restaurant-food order. Do not assume the same route will unlock B Mart or grocery purchases.
6. At checkout, select the overseas-card option actually displayed and read the final charge before paying.

Guest access has tradeoffs. Account-only promotions may not apply, previous addresses may not sync, and support access can differ. Baemin's developer response on Google Play says non-members may need to use the main customer-center number rather than in-app chat for some problems. Save the order number and take a screenshot of the restaurant, total, address, and status.

Coupang Eats: best when your Coupang setup already works

Coupang Eats offers restaurant ordering, pickup, live delivery tracking, grocery delivery in supported areas, and benefits for eligible WOW orders. Its current official app listing also says pickup orders have no minimum order amount, while restaurant operating hours and benefit eligibility vary.

For a foreign resident, the convenient route is to finish the Korean account setup correctly. Coupang's official payment FAQ says a foreign national can use Coupay when living in Korea with a valid Residence Card, a bank account in the same name, and a Korean mobile subscription registered in that same name. Spelling, capitalization, spaces, and name order can cause verification failures.

For a short-term visitor, do not assume that seeing English or downloading the app guarantees checkout. A foreign card or overseas phone may work in a particular version or order flow, but Coupang's public guidance does not currently promise one universal tourist setup for Coupang Eats. Test the account, address, and payment method before choosing a restaurant, and keep another option ready.

Yogiyo: useful for residents, but not the easiest tourist route

Yogiyo offers delivery, discounted-order sections, points, economical delivery options, and pickup. Its current official store listing and customer pages remain primarily Korean, and Yogiyo does not publicly describe a foreign-tourist path comparable to Baemin's current non-member route.

Yogiyo's privacy notice says an order requires the recipient's phone number and address. Its terms distinguish online payment from payment at the delivery location, but the payment choices available to a customer depend on the restaurant and delivery type. The existence of a pay-on-delivery definition is therefore not a guarantee that a particular order will offer it or that a foreign card will be accepted at the door.

If you already have a verified Korean account and can read the final checkout screen, Yogiyo is worth comparing for restaurant availability and the final price. For a visitor with only an overseas number and card, it should be a backup rather than the first app you spend time configuring.

Compare the final total, not the banner

The same restaurant can show a different total in each app. Before ordering, compare:

• Menu price and whether the portion or set is identical
• Minimum order amount
• Delivery fee, including distance or small-order charges
• Coupon or membership conditions
• Packaging and disposable-item charges
• The final payment amount after every discount and fee

A “free delivery” banner can apply only to participating restaurants, selected delivery types, or eligible members. Do not subscribe to a membership for one meal without checking the recurring charge, cancellation method, and whether the restaurant you want is included.

The address matters as much as the payment

A successful checkout can still become a failed delivery if the pin points to the wrong gate. Use the Korean road-name address when possible, then add the building, floor, and unit in the detailed-address field.

For an apartment complex, place the pin at the vehicle entrance the rider can actually use, not at the center of the complex. For a hotel, ask whether delivery riders may enter; many properties expect the guest to meet the rider in the lobby or outside.

A short delivery note is better than a long paragraph

Write the entrance first, then the building or meeting point. Do not save a permanent door code in the address profile.

A driver may still call if the entrance is blocked or the pin is wrong. Keep the active order screen open and be ready to meet at a bright, public entrance if communication becomes difficult.

Ordering to a Hangang River park

Do not place the pin in the middle of a lawn. Major Hangang parks use designated delivery zones (배달존), and riders expect the customer to meet them there. Choose the exact numbered delivery zone shown in the app or at the park, keep your phone available, and arrive before the rider.

The same practical rule applies whichever app you use: the delivery point must be a legal and reachable pickup location, not simply the place where you are sitting.

If the order does not go through

1. Phone verification fails: Check the country code and whether your home line can receive international SMS. A data-only eSIM cannot receive a code sent to a different number.
2. Identity verification appears: Confirm that you are using the intended guest flow. A full Korean account may require a Residence Card and name-matched mobile service.
3. Card fails: Use only another method displayed by the app. Do not assume that a card accepted in a Korean shop will also pass an online domestic checkout.
4. No restaurants appear: Recheck the address and pin. The restaurant may be outside its delivery radius or closed for orders.
5. The restaurant rejects the order: Choose a different restaurant. An order is not final merely because payment authorization briefly appears.
6. The rider cannot find you: Send the Korean address plus one entrance landmark, then offer to meet at the gate or lobby.

Once the restaurant has accepted and started preparing the food, do not cancel impulsively. Cancellation and refund eligibility depend on the order stage and the platform's current rules. Use the support option attached to the active order and keep screenshots until the issue is resolved.

When Shuttle Delivery is the better backup

Shuttle Delivery is built for foreigners living in or visiting Korea. VISITKOREA says it supports signup without a Korean phone number, international cards, multilingual use, and English-speaking support. The tradeoff is that delivery coverage and participating restaurants can be narrower than the major domestic apps, so check your exact address before building a meal plan around it.

For a tired traveler at a hotel, a service with a clear payment route and reachable support is often better than spending an hour trying to unlock a larger app. Pickup from a nearby restaurant or eating in person is also a perfectly practical fallback.
