Korean Wage and Salary Withholding Receipt: How to Request the Right Document

If you need a Korean wage and salary income tax withholding receipt, ask payroll for 근로소득 원천징수영수증 for the required income year. Confirm the exact document with the receiving institution first. A monthly payslip, employment certificate, and Certificate of Income are different documents and may not be interchangeable.

Checked October 18, 2026. The important year is the year the income belongs to, rather than simply the year you download or print the document.

Identify the document before requesting it

The National Tax Service's English forms page lists “Receipt for Wage & Salary Income Tax Withholding” under year-end tax settlement. It separately lists Certificate of Income and a receipt for retirement-income withholding. Use the Korean name as well as the English description when speaking with payroll.

Ask the recipient for its written requirement: document name, income year, language, acceptable issuer, and whether an original, electronic copy, signature, or other verification is needed. If it asks for “proof of income,” do not guess which certificate will satisfy it.

For a question about current employment status, the employment-certificate guide addresses a different document request. For monthly earnings and deductions, use the Korean payslip guide.

Send payroll a precise request

Include your name as recorded by the employer, employee identifier if relevant, the income year, and the requested document. Provide the recipient's format requirements and a reasonable deadline. Use the company's secure HR route for identity details.

Could you provide my 근로소득 원천징수영수증 for income year [year]? I need it for [purpose]. The recipient requires [language/format requirements]. Please confirm whether the document is available and how I should receive it securely.

If it is not ready, ask what stage is pending and when it can be issued. If you changed employers, identify which employer's income period the recipient needs. Do not assume one document automatically contains every employer's income or that a partial-year record is a final full-year settlement.

Use online records carefully

The government's Policy Briefing explanation of online retrieval, published by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's public communication office on May 7, 2021, distinguishes mobile viewing for the worker's own reference from documents for submission. Its menu path is historical. Check current Hometax labels and confirm that the downloadable document is accepted by your recipient; do not substitute a phone screenshot for a required issued receipt. If the record is unavailable, ask payroll or NTS about the issue route.

Download the complete document and check the income year, employer, your identifying details, period, and whether the file is a draft or corrected version. Do not edit the issued figures yourself. Ask the issuer to explain or correct an error, then keep the replacement clearly identified.

Know when a tax question needs a separate answer

A withholding receipt helps show income and tax information; obtaining it does not establish that a particular tax election or exemption was correct. NTS's January 7, 2026 foreign-employee tax guidance concerns settlement of 2025 income and lists English consultation at 1588-0560.

When seeking help, state the income year, employer, document name, and exact unresolved field. Send only the personal information needed for the question. Check the recipient and delivery channel before sharing a full tax record.
