A little help for everyday life
Start with a situation, find a question or read a label.
01Start with your situationSix collections of relevant guides
Start with the question you have. Open any relevant guide in each collection; these are explanations to explore, not tasks you must complete.
I have just moved in
Find the questions to ask about your building, included services and everyday rules.
I want to understand a bill
Choose the relevant explanation. A meter total, a period of use and an amount due are different things.
Heating and hot water are unfamiliar
Understand the arrangement and ask for the matching user guide. Keep unknown as an option.
I need help with the Wi-Fi
Learn the equipment and connection terms, then find the right host, administrator or provider to ask.
The laundry room is unfamiliar
Read the common labels and distinguish spin from drying. Exact controls still need the matching model guide.
I need the building's everyday rules
Find who can explain deliveries, disposal, shared facilities and building notices.
For an emergency, use Emergency safety for official contacts. These collections do not assess a hazard or identify your equipment.

Water meter 수도계량기
A water meter records accumulated water use. A reading is a total, while an increase between readings is a difference. Where the meter is installed and who reads it depend on your building and water service.
Applies to: General terms and fictional arithmetic. Seoul self-reading conditions apply only to the linked Seoul service.
Keep in mind: This guide explains meter terms and a fictional arithmetic example. Reading arrangements are described by the applicable water service or building manager.

This is the area where a reading is shown. Its digits are deliberately unreadable here; use the exact meter instructions for a real reading.
Meter body계량기 본체
The external housing is called the meter body. This is a generic appearance example, not an installed-equipment identification.

검침값 Meter reading
The recorded total at a particular reading time.
사용량 Usage
A quantity of water used over a period. Billing rules can affect the billed quantity.
청구금액 Amount due
The money charged on a bill. It is not the meter reading.
Learn the basics
Read the total, then understand the period
A meter reading is a running total
The reading records accumulated water use, rather than the water used this month. In the fictional exercise, an increase is found by comparing two readings from the same meter in the same unit, with no replacement or rollover. The result is an example quantity, not a bill.
The meter and the bill answer different questions
A reading tells you a recorded total; the bill identifies a period, usage and charges. The meter can be away from the kitchen or bathroom. Your manager or water service can explain who reads it and whether you have any submission task.
Understand readings & bills
A total, then a difference
Example / Not your actual meter reading
Assume the same meter and unit, with no replacement or rollover. The difference is 13 m³. This is an arithmetic example, not your billed quantity or amount due. It does not teach decimal or digit-colour interpretation on a real meter.
Ask the building manager or water service who reads the meter and whether any action is required from you.
Seoul's linked self-reading service has eligibility conditions and excludes remote or outsourced readings. Receiving a bill alone does not establish a submission obligation.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Keep the unit with the number
The practice values use m³, meaning cubic metres. For an actual meter, use its specific reading guide to understand decimal places and coloured digits; this illustration supplies no digit rule.
Check the arrangement before submitting anything
Ask whether readings are handled by the service, the building or residents. A self-reading page for one service does not make every resident responsible for submitting a reading.
Ask where the accessible information is
If you cannot find or access the meter, ask the manager for the location and authorised reading process. Leave locked or shared cabinets and seals alone.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question
Who to ask
Start with the host or building manager. Ask the applicable water service about its reading and billing conditions when you receive a direct bill.

Water-temperature words, not instructions about a handle direction.
세면대 Washbasin

Learn the basics
Name the fixture and read its own markings
The faucet is separate from the basin
수전 means the faucet or tap that supplies water; 세면대 is the washbasin beneath it. 주방 수전 names a kitchen faucet and 세면 수전 a basin faucet. The visible handle and spout are different from supply connections beneath or behind the fixture.
Hot and cold words do not specify a handle direction
냉수 means cold water and 온수 means hot water. Products can show temperature information with words, letters or symbols. Those markings need the actual fixture’s explanation; another tap’s left/right or turning rule does not carry over.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Name the room and visible part
Use “kitchen faucet handle”, “bathroom faucet spout” or “washbasin” to describe your question. Naming what you can see is clearer than guessing which hidden pipe or connection is involved.

Gas supply & what it serves 가스 공급·사용 용도
Gas may supply cooking, space heating or hot water, depending on the appliances and building. Those uses do not have to share one supply arrangement. Knowing the supplier and what your gas bill covers is more useful than guessing from the shape of a meter.
Applies to: General supply and use vocabulary. City gas, LPG and unknown remain separate possibilities; no supply type or appliance compatibility is inferred.
Keep in mind: This topic explains supply names and enquiry routes. The responsible company is specific to the home.

A gas meterandA confirmed supply type
Both the equipment and the provider matter. A meter alone does not identify city gas or LPG; keep the supply unknown until the responsible service or manager confirms it.
도시가스 City gas
A gas supply service provided by a regional gas company. Confirm the company serving your home.
LPG / 액화석유가스 LPG
Liquefied petroleum gas. A metered LPG arrangement also exists, so a meter alone does not identify city gas.
취사 Cooking
The cooking use of gas, separate from heating and hot-water uses.
난방 / 온수 Space heating / hot water
Heating rooms and supplying hot water are different household needs. Ask which supply serves each one.
Learn the basics
Separate the supply from its household uses
Cooking, heating and hot water can have different sources
Gas may serve cooking, room heating, hot water or a combination. A building-supplied heating system can coexist with gas cooking. An electric cooker does not identify the source of hot water. Ask about each use separately.
A gas meter does not identify the fuel
City gas and LPG are different supply possibilities. Korea Gas Safety Corporation also describes metered LPG arrangements, so a meter alone cannot settle which supply you have. Use the supplier name on a notice or bill, or the manager’s confirmation.
Unknown is a useful starting point
Say which service you want to understand: 취사 for cooking, 난방 for room heating, or 온수 for hot water. The responsible person can identify the supply and guide. There is no need to inspect pipes, connections or locked equipment to ask the question.
Unknown is kept. The presence of a meter or the type of home alone does not establish the gas supply type. Ask the host, manager or supplier what serves cooking, heating and hot water.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Match the bill to the use
Ask whether the gas charge covers cooking alone or also heating and hot water. A separate gas bill is not automatically a complete statement of all home energy costs.
Match the company to the home
Use the company confirmed to serve the home. Seoul City Gas’s customer route applies to its supply area; its name does not establish coverage for every home in Seoul.
Keep supply information separate from controls
After confirming the supply, request the user guide for the actual appliance or controller. A supply name does not give an operating procedure for a boiler, valve or meter.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question
Who to ask
Ask the host or manager to confirm the supply and responsible company, then use that company’s applicable customer-service route.

Gas meter & bill 가스계량기·고지서
A gas meter reading, an amount of gas used and a bill total are different numbers. Seoul City Gas's example distinguishes volume in m³, energy in MJ and money in won. Your provider and billing arrangement determine the applicable calculation.

The recorded meter value at a reading time; it is different from the money due.
사용량 (m³ / ㎥) Volume used
A volume of gas for the billing period. m³ means cubic metres.

청구금액 / 결제금액 (원) Amount due
Money to pay, expressed in Korean won. Check the bill's own item definitions.
보정계수 / 평균열량 Correction factor / average calorific value
Inputs used in the linked provider's calculation. They are not universal fixed numbers.
Learn the basics
Separate the meter value, usage and money due
Read the unit before comparing numbers
In the Seoul City Gas example, m³ measures gas volume, MJ measures energy, and 원 denotes money in Korean won. A meter value, period usage and bill total therefore answer different questions. Their numbers are not interchangeable.
A meter difference is only part of a bill
The linked provider uses reading differences together with correction and calorific factors in its explanation. Other charge items may also appear. Multiplying a visible meter difference by a guessed national price does not produce the actual bill.
The bill issuer explains the arrangement
Gas may be billed by a supplier, through building fees or through another arrangement. Ask the issuer which period, units and charge items apply. This page does not need your readings, account number or payment information.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Compare the same kind of information
Check the dates, units and included items before comparing two bills. A larger money total alone does not show how much more gas was used or establish an equipment problem.
Keep water and gas examples separate
Both services may use m³ for volume, but their billing rules differ. The fictional water-reading exercise is not a gas-energy or gas-price calculator.
Ask what the moving settlement covers
For a move, confirm the final billing period and any remaining payment arrangement with the provider. Reading a settlement guide does not complete payment or cancel an automatic payment.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question
Who to ask
Ask the gas-bill issuer or applicable supplier to explain its period, units and charges. For a building-fee item, start with the management office.

Identify the service before interpreting its controller
Heating arrangements have different names
개별난방 describes heating for an individual home; 중앙난방 describes a shared building or complex plant; 지역난방 describes heat supplied from outside the building. A building-supplied system can still have an in-home controller. The building type alone does not select the arrangement.
Room temperature and set temperature are different
In Korea District Heating Corporation’s equipment explanation, 실내온도 is an indoor-temperature reading and 설정온도 is a selected target. A target on a screen does not mean it has been reached. Other displays and modes need the confirmed controller’s guide.
Heating and hot water are separate questions
난방 warms the home; 온수 or 급탕 supplies hot water for taps and showers. Confirm the source and resident control for each service. If the supply or model is unknown, ask the manager instead of choosing a button sequence.
Unknown is kept. An apartment, villa or studio does not establish the heating arrangement. Ask the manager about room heating, hot water and their billing separately.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Name the service you mean
Use 난방 when asking about room heating and 온수 or 급탕 when asking about hot-water supply. This helps avoid a general “the boiler” question when the services may be arranged differently.
Get the resident controller guide
Ask for the actual controller’s model and instructions intended for residents. A similar panel or another home’s settings do not explain this installation.
Describe a room difference without assigning a cause
If one room feels warmer or colder, name the room and what you noticed. That observation helps a relevant enquiry but does not identify a valve fault or determine repair responsibility.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question

Breaker panel 분전반·차단기
A breaker panel contains devices associated with electrical circuits. Visible labels may name rooms or appliances. Protective devices can have different functions, so a label or switch position does not establish the condition of the wiring.
Applies to: Panel vocabulary and protection concepts only. No actual circuit map, fault diagnosis, testing or reset sequence.
Keep in mind: This topic explains panel and protection terms. Circuit identification and equipment instructions are outside this edition.

누전 / 과전류 Leakage / overcurrent
Different electrical fault/protection concepts, not interchangeable diagnoses.
Learn the basics
Understand the labels without inferring the wiring
A circuit label describes an intended name
분전반, also informally called 두꺼비집, is the breaker panel. A visible label such as 조명 means lighting, but it does not prove which nearby socket belongs to that circuit. The building’s confirmed explanation supplies the relevant map.
Leakage and overcurrent are different concepts
Residual-current protection concerns current leakage; overcurrent protection concerns excessive current. Some devices combine functions. A generic drawing, label or switch position does not identify your installed protection or establish electrical safety.
Everyday tips

Plugs, sockets and power strips 콘센트·플러그·멀티탭
A wall socket, a plug and a power strip are different parts of an electrical connection. The product’s rated voltage, current and permitted load matter. A travel adapter changing the shape of a plug does not by itself establish electrical compatibility.
Applies to: Connection-part and specification vocabulary. No compatibility assessment, electrical work or onsite response instructions.

Learn the basics
Read the requirements as well as the shape
A socket, plug and power strip are different parts
The 콘센트 is the socket or outlet; the plug belongs to the appliance lead; a 멀티탭 provides several sockets with its own rating. A plug fitting an adapter does not establish that the appliance’s electrical requirements are met.
Ratings still apply when several sockets are available
정격전압 is rated voltage, usually labelled V, and 정격전류 is rated current, usually labelled A. These are specification headings. The actual product documentation describes its own requirements; this glossary does not evaluate an appliance, accessory or installation.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Find the product information source
A product label and the matching manufacturer guide are possible sources of specification words. The host or manufacturer can identify which guide applies to the actual item.

Electricity meter and bill 전력량계·전기요금
An electricity meter records electrical energy use. A bill connects usage to a billing period and its charging arrangement. An appliance’s power rating in W is a different kind of number from energy use in kWh or an amount due in won.
Applies to: Power, energy and bill vocabulary. No real-time bill estimate, tariff promise or leakage diagnosis.
Keep in mind: Leave meters, seals and locked/shared cabinets untouched. Keep actual readings and customer identifiers on your own private records.

청구금액 / 납부기한 Amount due / due date
The payment amount and deadline on the actual bill; these are separate from usage.
Learn the basics
Separate power, energy and payment
The unit changes the meaning
W expresses power; kWh expresses electrical energy; 원 expresses money in won. An appliance’s rated power does not give your monthly energy use. A cumulative meter reading and the quantity for a billed period are also different, and display meanings depend on the meter type.
The bill sender explains what is included
Electricity may come on a direct KEPCO bill or as an item in 관리비. Find the covered period and ask whether the statement separates home usage from shared building charges. A total alone does not show that arrangement.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Compare the period and kWh first
When comparing your own bills, check that the dates and usage units are comparable before looking at won. A change in the amount due does not identify an appliance or diagnose leakage.
Use the item name in a billing enquiry
Ask the actual supplier about a direct bill or the management office about its statement. Ask which period and calculation the line covers; this guide neither collects meter values nor calculates payment.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question
Who to ask
For a direct supplier bill, use that supplier’s customer service. For electricity charged through building fees, ask the management office or statement issuer.

탈수 Spin
A washing function that removes water by spinning; it is different from drying.
취급표시 Care label
The garment’s care information, including any drying restrictions.
Learn the basics
Separate spinning, drying and garment care
Spin and drying are different tasks
탈수 removes water by spinning; 건조 is drying. A separate dryer and a washer-dryer have different product configurations. A drying word on a washing-machine panel does not make another dryer’s guide applicable.
The garment and machine each supply instructions
The garment’s 취급표시 gives care information, including drying restrictions. Compare it with the actual machine guide. A material name or a familiar programme word alone does not decide whether that garment can be machine dried.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Clarify an unfamiliar care label first
If a drying symbol or written care statement is unclear, confirm its meaning before selecting a programme. This glossary does not assign a heat setting, drying time or load.
Confirm the shared-laundry arrangement
Ask which dryer or washer-dryer guests may use, where its guide is and who manages its upkeep. Local access and use rules are separate from the meaning of 건조.

송풍 / 난방 Fan / heating
Airflow and heating are distinct modes; heating support must be confirmed for the unit and remote.
Learn the basics
Match the unit, remote and displayed mode
Cooling, dehumidifying and fan have different names
냉방 is cooling, 제습 is dehumidifying and 송풍 is fan mode. 난방 is heating when the installed unit and remote support it. LG’s guide notes that available modes vary with product features; a printed remote label does not guarantee that function here.
Read a display with its nearby words
Use the displayed mode, labels and units to ask what a number or symbol means on this combination. The actual unit-and-remote guide should explain it. This page does not identify a room-temperature reading or a target from a generic screen.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Name the mode rather than a button colour
Use 냉방, 제습 or 송풍 in the question and describe the visible display. That gives the host a clearer starting point than “the blue button” without treating the display as a fault diagnosis.
Confirm which remote belongs to this unit
Ask the host to identify the installed unit and matching remote, their supported modes and their user guide. Another room’s remote or a similar picture is not enough for an operating instruction.

Identify the heating mode and its instructions
A combination appliance can have several modes
전자레인지 can name a microwave appliance; 레인지 can name its microwave mode. A combination oven may also offer 오븐 or grill modes. The appliance’s shape does not tell you which heating method is selected.
Container guidance needs the selected mode
Use the appliance’s instructions for the mode and the container maker’s marking together. A container or supplied accessory suitable for one mode may not suit another. Appearance or a generic “heat resistant” description does not settle that match.

정수 names filtered water, 냉수 chilled water and 온수 hot water, when those options are offered. 출수 means dispensing water from the outlet. The available choices and dispensing controls depend on the product; a label does not specify temperature or an unlocking method.
Appliance care and water testing answer different questions
The host or rental care provider can explain filter schedules and appliance service. A filter replacement or rental contract is different from a household water-quality result. The word 정수 does not certify the water supplied to this home.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Confirm the option before following a dispensing guide
Ask the host to identify 냉수, 정수 and 온수 on the actual product and show the ordinary user instructions. Keep hot-water precautions and controls with that model’s guide.
Know who arranges care visits
Ask who manages the purifier, where its service information is kept and whom to contact about a fault. Filter and plumbing work belong with the responsible care service rather than a generic demonstration.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question
Who to ask
Ask the host who manages the purifier and its care. Use the applicable manufacturer or rental care provider for the exact model.

The line, modem and router have different roles
The internet line is the service connection to the home. A modem links an incoming provider connection with home-network equipment; a router shares a connection with your devices, often through Wi-Fi. These roles may be combined in one box, and some buildings do not have a separate modem in the room.
A network name and two passwords
The Wi-Fi name, or SSID, identifies the network to select. Its connection password is used to join that network; an administrator password is used for equipment settings. Knowing guest connection details does not mean you should change the equipment.

Package receiving and lockers 택배 수령·보관함
A parcel may be left at a building’s designated receiving point, a locker or another location named in the delivery notice. Apartment lockers and public parcel lockers can have different operators and rules. Find the actual receiving arrangement first.
Applies to: Parcel and locker vocabulary plus local enquiries. No universal locker controls, code entry, current fee or collection deadline.
Keep in mind: Keep room numbers, delivery codes and entry information private. Do not open another person’s compartment or force a locked or restricted facility.

Receiving the item and storing it are different stages; a notice does not prove personal collection.
Learn the basics
Find the receiving point and its operator
Delivery and collection are separate stages
A notice may name a designated parcel area, an office or a locker. 보관 means storage and 수령 means receiving or collecting. A delivery notification describes its stated stage; it does not prove that you personally collected the parcel.
Public and apartment lockers can use different systems
A 택배보관함 is managed by a particular operator. Public-locker examples do not supply an apartment locker’s controls, fees, collection period or access process. Use the instructions for the actual receiving point.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Match the location in the notification
Read your own notice privately and identify the named receiving point. If the name or location is unclear, ask the host, manager or actual operator before looking for a compartment.
Use the posted collection and support route
Check the current operator name, collection instructions and support contact at the relevant facility. Keep delivery and entry codes private; do not force a compartment or open another person’s storage.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question
Who to ask
Ask the host or manager about the designated parcel area. For an operator-managed locker, use the contact posted by that actual operator.

Waste and recycling 분리배출·생활쓰레기
Household waste can follow general-waste, food-waste, recycling or large-item routes. The applicable bags, collection place, days and preparation rules depend on the local district and building. Start with the current local notice.
Applies to: Waste-route vocabulary and ways to find the applicable rules. No nationwide collection schedule, bag rule, fee or automatic item classification.
Keep in mind: Do not assume that a bag from another district, a food-like item or a printed recycling symbol alone settles the local disposal route. Batteries, hazardous items and large items can need separate guidance.

Learn the basics
Find the current local route for each waste item
Start with the route names
General waste, 음식물쓰레기 food waste, 재활용 recycling and large items can have separate routes. These names help you find the relevant section of a local notice; they do not automatically classify an item or supply a bag rule.
The current local notice supplies the usable detail
Look for the category, bag or collection system, place and stated day/time. District guidance and the building’s collection arrangement need to match your location. The Seoul handbook gives context, not a current schedule for every home in Korea.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Check the arrangement before buying bags
Ask the host or office which local bags or collection system apply and where the current instructions are posted. Do not assume another district’s bag or another building’s timetable applies.
Ask about the actual uncertain item
Use the local official sorting guide for the item itself. A food-like appearance or recycling symbol is not enough to settle the route. Ask separately about large items, batteries or other items needing special guidance.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question
Who to ask
Ask the host or management office for the building’s current notice, then use the applicable district’s official sorting and collection guidance.

Management fees, office and notices 관리비·관리실·안내문
관리비 is a building-fee statement or charge. It can include shared management items and separate usage items such as water, electricity or heating. The management office or responsible operator can explain a notice, item and relevant contact.
Applies to: Fee-category and notice-reading vocabulary. No bill validation, tenancy obligation, repair-cost liability or legal decision.

Shared management and usage items are different categories
K-apt’s example categories place cleaning, 청소비, and security, 경비비, under shared management. Its individual usage categories include heating, hot water, electricity and water. These names help you read a statement; the issuer explains which items and allocation apply to your building.
A notice tells you a subject, action and contact
On an 안내문, look for the date, affected service, any stated resident action and the contact. A notice announcing an inspection or work is different from confirmation that it was completed. Ask about the specific notice rather than assuming the building’s current condition.
Everyday tips
Useful things to check
Ask about one line and its period
Use the item name and ask which period, unit or allocation it covers. Keep the detailed bill, amount and account identifiers on your own copy; the guide does not validate the statement or calculate payment.
Find the contact for the actual enquiry
Ask who explains the fee, clarifies the notice or schedules a repair enquiry. Contract terms and appropriate official advice address responsibility; the category name alone does not decide who pays for a repair.
Find the right next step
Ask with a clear question
Who to ask
Ask the statement issuer or management office about a fee item or notice. Ask the responsible operator which contact handles a repair enquiry.
