Prepare the bicycle before reaching the train. KORAIL’s English guidance says you must fold a bicycle before boarding; a bicycle that does not fold must be disassembled and put inside a bag. Do not arrive with an assembled bicycle and assume buying a passenger ticket solves the baggage question.
Official guidance checked: October 23, 2026 (KST). The linked KORAIL operational page does not display a separate publication or effective date. This guide concerns carrying a bicycle as baggage; it does not establish a special bicycle space or an exception for a particular service.
Decide which preparation applies
Read the bicycle paragraph in the official KORAIL baggage guidance before paying for the trip. For a folding bicycle, practise the complete fold with the bicycle you will bring. For another bicycle, plan how it will be disassembled and contained.
Practise carrying the prepared bicycle with your other bags. If you cannot manage the complete load through a station, choose another transport plan before buying the train ticket.
Check the complete package
KORAIL’s general carry-on criteria limit luggage to no more than two pieces that the passenger can carry; luggage must not occupy a seat or block an aisle.
- Measure the final packed or folded dimensions.
- Check that loose parts stay inside the bag.
- Protect sharp or oily parts so you can handle the package cleanly.
- Try lifting and moving it using the actual handles or straps.
For an electric bicycle, unusual frame, bulky case, or any uncertain setup, contact KORAIL with a precise description. Give the dimensions, weight, battery details if relevant, train type, and route. Ask whether that exact configuration is accepted. This article does not establish permission for a bicycle battery or a size exception.
Plan the station movement
Check the route from the street or subway to the mainline railway area. Identify elevators where needed and keep enough time to move without obstructing other travellers. Ask station staff if you cannot determine how to reach the platform with the package.
Before boarding, confirm where your prepared bicycle should go. Keep the package under control and follow staff instructions. Do not plan around leaving it on a passenger seat or across a walking route.
If the preparation does not work
Consider renting a bicycle at the destination, using a smaller folding bicycle, or arranging a suitable transport service whose conditions you have checked. Confirm the destination’s rental availability directly before dropping your original plan.
The Seoul–Busan KTX route guide can help with the passenger journey once the bicycle question is settled. Check the bicycle conditions before you commit to those tickets.
