The hardest part of waiting for a popular restaurant in Seoul is not the line itself. It is working out which system the restaurant uses. One branch may accept a reservation, another may open a remote waitlist, and a third may only have a tablet at the door. A guide that treats all three as the same will send travelers in the wrong direction.

Start with the exact restaurant branch
Do not search only by the restaurant's English name. Chains and popular brands often have several branches, and their waiting rules can differ. Match the Korean address or neighborhood, then save a screenshot of the branch name and address. This is useful if a taxi driver, hotel desk, or restaurant employee needs to confirm where you are going.
CATCHTABLE Global is designed for international users. According to the Korea Tourism Organization's June 2026 guide, travelers can create an account with Google, Apple, or email without a Korean phone number. The service can show reservations, remote waiting, or instructions for on-site waiting, depending on what the restaurant has enabled.
Reservation, remote waiting, and on-site waiting are different
Reservation
A reservation gives you a scheduled arrival time. Some restaurants require a deposit. CATCHTABLE Global supports foreign-issued cards for participating restaurants, but the payment and cancellation terms belong to the individual booking. Read those terms before confirming, especially if your itinerary may change.
Remote waiting
If the restaurant page displays Join Remote Waitlist, the app or website will show the current queue and let you join without standing at the entrance. The official guidance says the queue number can be sent by email and tracked in real time. Keep mobile data available and check both the service and your email rather than relying on a single notification.
Remote waiting is not available at every restaurant or every branch. If the button is absent, that does not necessarily mean the restaurant is closed or fully booked. It may simply use reservations, walk-ins, or an on-site waiting list.
On-site waiting
Some restaurants only open the queue after you arrive. Look for a tablet near the entrance, a numbered ticket machine, or a staff member managing names. The screen may offer a foreign-language option, but some local systems still ask for a Korean mobile number.
Do not type a random 010 number. The restaurant may send the call notification to that number, and you could lose your place without knowing it. Instead, ask the staff before entering any contact details.
외국 전화번호만 있는데 대기 등록을 도와주실 수 있을까요?
I only have a foreign phone number. Could you help me join the waitlist?
If the restaurant cannot register an overseas number, ask what it can actually offer. Depending on the venue, that might be a manual entry, instructions to stay nearby, or a request to return at a quieter time. There is no universal staff override or guaranteed paper ticket, so treat it as a polite question rather than a service you are entitled to receive.
A low-stress sequence that works better
- Check the branch before traveling. Look for Reserve or Join Remote Waitlist on the exact restaurant page.
- Save the Korean name and address. This prevents confusion between branches with similar English names.
- Keep email and app notifications available. A data-only eSIM is enough for internet alerts, but it does not create a Korean 010 number.
- Arrive before your turn. Each restaurant decides how long it holds a place. Do not assume there is a standard grace period.
- Bring the full party to the entrance. Some restaurants seat only when everyone has arrived.
- Keep one nearby backup. If the restaurant uses a domestic-only system and cannot help, switching venues is often better than losing an hour trying different apps.
What to say at the door
Restaurant entrances can be busy, so a short request is easier than a long explanation. Show the branch page on your phone and use one sentence.
- 대기 등록은 어디에서 하나요?
Where do I join the waitlist? - 캐치테이블 글로벌로 대기할 수 있나요?
Can I wait through CATCHTABLE Global? - 한국 전화번호가 없어요.
I do not have a Korean phone number. - 몇 팀 남았는지 확인할 수 있을까요?
Could you check how many parties are ahead of us?
If the staff points to a QR code or tablet, follow that venue's instructions. If the explanation is difficult to understand, use a translation app with one question at a time. Asking several questions in one translated paragraph often makes the exchange harder.
When the queue is moving
Stay close enough to return quickly, but do not block the entrance. Watch the live queue number and check email or app alerts. A restaurant may skip a party that does not respond, but the timing varies. The safest approach is to be back near the door before only a few parties remain rather than relying on a fixed number of minutes.
If your position disappears or the status is unclear, show the screen to an employee. Do not create a second entry unless the staff tells you to do so; duplicate entries can make the situation more confusing.
If the system still does not work
Move from technical troubleshooting to a practical decision. Ask whether the restaurant accepts ordinary walk-ins, whether another branch uses CATCHTABLE Global, or when the quietest period usually begins. Lunch just after opening or dinner before the main rush may be easier, but popular venues can fill at any time.
Also check the cancellation and no-show rules separately when you have made a reservation. A waitlist and a paid reservation are not the same arrangement.
Before you go
- Confirm the exact branch and Korean address.
- Check whether the page shows Reserve, Join Remote Waitlist, or on-site instructions.
- Keep email and mobile data available.
- Never enter someone else's phone number without permission.
- Return early because each restaurant sets its own calling rules.
- Save one nearby alternative.
